In November, 1999, Laura Pinto and Wendy Potomski were recognized by the Ontario Women's Directorate (OWD) for their contributions to financial literacy education for women. Helen Johns, Minister Responsible for Women's Issues, presented Pinto and Potomski with the Partners for Change award at Queen's Park in Toronto. This was the third annual ceremony at which the OWD presented the award.

This project, sponsored by Partners for Change, an OWD volunteer committee, began with a brochure entitled Your Money, Your Life, Your Way! The brochure provides secondary school students (with an emphasis on the needs of young women) with basic knowledge about personal finances. Pinto and Potomski proposed a teacher resource to supplement the brochure and link financial literacy content with the new grades nine and ten courses. The Teachers' Resource Guide consists of five original lessons, as well as case studies and worksheets to support those lessons. It also includes a curriculum correlation chart linking lessons to expectations contained in the policy documents and assessment and evaluation tools.
